Christ-Mass Cell

Thank you one and all for coming over for our annual QCCC Christmas Cell

From the alumni who brought in Chinese food from the GTA, quickly made meals and campus staples like 2L pop bottles - it summed up as an awesome reminder of how QCCCommunity pulls together parties like few others.

Fr. Raymond popped on by and there was singing carolling.

Needless to say, thanks for joining in our merriment and we're looking even more forward to next year!

What is advent?

Thanks to all of those who made it to cell this weekend, you have made the discussion about advent and mass very entertaining and enriching. Hope everyone had enjoyed the side game of guessing people's birthdays!

Remember Advent is a time for preparation, to make ourselves ready for the coming of Christ, so start that out by doing an extra deed or so, because you never know, Santa will just pop out and surprise the good kids! :D

Cell: 1000 Words

Thanks to everyone who came out on Friday! Even though we didn't have Newman House, we hope everyone had a good time watching our featured presentation of the night on the "BIG" screen: A Thousand Words.

This movie starring Eddie Murphy is about a man who talks and lies too much has his life magically tied to the number of leaves of a tree; the more he talks the more leaves fall, and when leaves fall ... You know where this is going.

Words are a gift from God, but are often misused in a variety of ways by people. But when used in a positive way, even the most simplest of words such as "trust", "love" and "peace" can impact people deeply.

So next time when you talk to someone, challenge yourself to talk to someone in a meaningful way with the  least amount of words.

JUCCC Local Visit 2012

This past Saturday, QCCC played host to the JUCCC Local Visit for 2012! It was great to see everyone who managed to take time to come!

There were silly activities and lots of laughs and giggles.

Lots of walking in the good 'ole Kingstonian weather around campus ...

and in it!

Thanks so very much to all the CCCs and our wonderful speaker Dan Freeman!

A facebook album will be posted soon and keep a lookout on the QCCC group and JUCCC Local Visit group/event pages

We really can't stress how grateful we are about how everything turned out ... seriously.

And remember, propose our faith - don't impose it!

Here's links to resources from Dan's talk!

Cleaning, Jesus and Zombies (In reverse order!)

I hope all of you had a great weekend!

Thanks for those that popped by for some fun games like Taboo on Friday night! For those that wanted to watch the video that wrapped around with our discussion about Halloween, All Saints day and purgatory.

Also massive props to those who went on to Prison Visit on Saturday and helped with the Newman House cleanup event! The chapel is a lot shinier than before!

Movie night!

This Friday, QCCC spent some quality time with Fr. Barron in the Catholicism Series: A Vast Company of Witnesses, The Communion of Saints! We learned about the lives of many saints including Mother Teresa, Katherine Drexel, Edith Stein, and St. Therese de Lisieux, and also had a wonderful discussion about the process of canonization, miracles, and the ties between science and religion. Did we mention we had lots of popcorn and snacks?

Peanut Butter x Batman: Seeing the Christ Archetype in Popular Culture

People were confuzzled when we sent out our weekly email... what does peanut butter have to do with Batman?!

For those that came to cell last Friday, we played the Peanut Butter River game and watch some Batman movie clips. Sweet! Not to mention, we tied it all together with Fr. Robert Barron's response to the Christ archetype in media as the "Hero who saves." It is clear that we see Batman as the hero of Gotham, but a closer look at the themes of the movie point to a greater analogy, Jesus as the saviour of the world!

Missed out on cell this week? Don't fret! Here are the links to the videos that were watched and of course, a glimpse of what went down during our activity in our pictures.

Wasn't familiar with the singspiration songs we sang? Fear not again! Here are the links for them too. Learn them well! We will be revisiting these soon =)

Just for laughs

Here's a funny post that relates to the blindfolding activity from last cell. =D

Cell: A Walk in the Dark

We were so happy to see so many new and familiar faces at cell this week! As for the activities, we played a blindfolding game where partners had to team up to help each other through an intense obstacle course. We had many laughs and great memories to share, and we learned something new about having faith in the unknown. After that, we watched a videoclip from Fringe, which served as an interesting starting point for a discussion about prayer. And of course, what cell would be complete without a trip to bubble tea? :D

Anyway, thanks for coming out this week, and join us for more adventures at next week's SECRET CELL! (Check your e-mails, guys!)

Open House

Thanks for coming out to Open House yesterday! Everyone brought an amazing sense of enthusiasm and it was great that we had so much fun.

We had so many laughs throughout the night. The curtain game proved to be a hilarious activity as people struggled to remember names, tried to outsmart the opposing team, and simply got creative. Human knot resulted in friendly competition between the teams. Afterwards, we showed you what QCCC was all about. Hopefully, you'll understand us a little better because of the presentation. Singspiration was a load of spontaneous fun and we capped it off with some snacks and pictures. Finally, we ended the night with bubble tea at Classics. (Massive QCCC invasion, anyone? Haha.)

Stay tuned for more QCCC updates and join us for more exciting adventures next Friday!

P.S. Thanks for making the amazing curry fishballs, Janice! They were delicious.

Summer Cell 2012

Summer cell was a blast! The theme of this year's cell was water and the spectacular view of the lake could not have been better. We did many fun activities including laughter-filled icebreakers, pictionary, hilarious skits (featuring Jason as the most awesome cow), a relay water game, passage puzzles, garden tours, bible sharing, string games, surprise birthday cakes and cards (happy birthday to Mikey and Hilton!), campfire singing, smores, personality quizzes, stargazing, sleepover, Sunday mass, nearby town exploration, not to mention lots of tasty organic food and wine!

We want to give a big thanks to all those who came and the people who have made this day possible. It would not have been possible without all your hard work!

Join us later in the year for more exciting QCCC events to come! =)
